BODY WORK REPAIR
Difficulty: medium to hard
Duration: Depends on work required
The following instructions will help you make your own body repairs on most popular vehicles. Although repairing scratches and painting isn't difficult, be sure to READ these instructions completely before you begin.
TOOLS AND EQUIPEMENT
TO MAKE BODY WORK REPAIRS, YOU'LL NEED:
- Sandpaper (fine and extra fine, wet or dry)
- Masking tape
- Can of primer
- Can of paint
- Cardboard
- Newspaper
- Sponge or cloth
- Wax remover/solvent
- Fine rubbing compound
- Wax
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
- Get all the materials you'll need to make the repair. We'll help you, but we need to know the type of repair you're making and the kind of vehicle you have (fibreglass parts are different than steel parts). You'll also need to know the year, make and model of the vehicle to get the right colour of paint.
- Get the correct colour of paint. The paint code is usually located on a tag under the hood, on the door jam, or inside the glove compartment.
- Review the entire step-by-step repair procedure to be sure you know how to do the job.
